About her

Chayle McCarthy

Chayle McCarthy

Born: October 21st, 1948

Passed on: August 4th, 2017

With profound sadness, we announce that our mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, Chayle Susan McCarthy (nee Dickey) passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her home on August 4th, 2017. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed. Chayle is survived by her loving husband of over 38 years, Dave McCarthy, her kids Angie Quaale (David Gassaway) of Vancouver, Pam McCarthy (Mark Warren) and Ryan McCarthy, (Carlene Stamler) of Calgary, her sisters Patti Stephenson (John Donnelley) of West Kelowna, Lorie Lapinsky (Jim Lapinsky) of Calgary, and their extended families. She was predeceased by her Father Harold Warren Dickey and her Mother Zetta Anne Dickey. . Chayle had a love of the arts and spent the most enjoyable of her working years with an incredible team at the Lunchbox Theatre in Calgary where she made lifelong friends and had the opportunity to thrive in a work environment she thoroughly enjoyed. Chayle and Dave "retired" to Penticton where she worked part-time for the Penticton Friendship Centre and volunteered with Critter Aid. Chayle was a certified BBQ judge and enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends in the BBQ community. She was an avid sewer, quilter, a voracious reader and a backyard gardener. Chayle was actively supportive of her children's athletic, educational and business endeavors. She spent countless hours designing and sewing dance costumes (including thousands of sequins by hand), sewing figure skating uniforms for the entire league, and cheering on the team from the stands at many hockey arenas and baseball fields. Her children's friend's lovingly called her "Mama Chayle". Chayle loved her 2 rescue dogs, Peanut & Tucker and enjoyed spending time visiting her kids in Calgary and Langley. Chayle loved to travel with Dave, and her children, and enjoyed the time they spent together at home or with friends and extended family. She enjoyed tropical vacations to Hawaii and Mexico with Dave and Ryan and their close friends Kathy and Ron Plashka, as well as trips to Las Vegas and Seattle with Angie. Chayle and Dave took an unforgettable trip to China with Pam, walking on the Great Wall of China, and visiting the Terra Cotta Warrior Army, for Chayle's birthday in 2011. Chayle and Dave took another memorable trip - to Ireland - and, rumor has it - she kissed the Blarney Stone. Chayle was a great home cook and enjoyed preparing her children's favorite meals and baked treats. She is famous for her "Roast Beef Dinners" as well as her Butter Tarts, snowballs and shortbread cookies - even sending care packages of Christmas baking to her kids long distance. There will be an open house, celebration of life held at her home on Saturday August 12th from 12 noon - 4pm. Friends and family are very welcome to attend - 114 Pineview Place, Penticton, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BC Heart & Stroke Foundation.
